A Virtual Date with Malaga https://foodexperiencemalaga.com/experience-malaga-festival-pr/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=experience-malaga-festival-pr Tue, 09 Jun 2020 10:36:49 +0000 https://foodexperiencemalaga.com/?p=529

A Virtual Date With Malaga

Getting tourism back on track after lockdown in Malaga, Spain, is no easy feat but two women who live and work in the city think they’ve come up with a pretty savvy solution.

Experience Malaga is a three day virtual lifestyle festival inviting you to take part from your home.

Hanni Martini (40) from Plymouth, England and Jessica Baker Daza (32) from Dublin, Ireland will be taking you on a virtual tour of Malaga with wine, beer and coffee tastings, show cookings and tapas tours, live music and traditional flamenco to get you in the spirit of Andalusia.

Entertaining visitors to the Costa Del Sol’s capital cosmopolitan city is what these girls about town do for a living, or at least they did until lockdown.

“Our businesses collapsed overnight,” says Hanni. “The whole city is built on tourism and we lost everything we had prior to Spain’s 11 week lockdown. Now we are trying to rebuild.”

The event isn’t even about making money. It’s about spreading the word to the people back home in England and Ireland and raising money for our chosen charity – Ronald McDonald House, Malaga.

Jess said: “We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the city but right now we’re doing our bit and inviting you to Malaga online. Trust me, it’ll be just as much fun! Well, almost.”

How to Make Fried Almonds at Home https://foodexperiencemalaga.com/how-to-make-fried-almonds-at-home/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-make-fried-almonds-at-home Thu, 07 May 2020 14:14:17 +0000 http://foodexperiencemalaga.com/?p=198

Fried Almonds

Anyone who has been on one of our market tours will have tried this local delicacy. It’s hard to describe just how moreish your average almond can become, when fried in olive oil and dashed with crunchy salt. If you can’t get to Malaga right now to join us on a fabulous food tour, you can make your own ‘almendras fritas’ at home.

This step by step recipe and beautiful photos have been adapted from Ana Maria of  cocinandoentreolivos.com with her kind permission.

Ingredients

Almonds
Good extra virgin olive oil (Ana uses picual from Jaen)
Coarse salt

Method

Heat your extra virgin olive oil in a medium sized pan on a medium heat. As the oil starts to warm, add your olives. You don’t want the oil to get too hot. Keep them moving continuously with a slotted spoon until they turn a nice golden brown colour.

When they are golden brown, remove them from the pan, on to a plate covered with a couple of layers of kitchen paper. Add a few good pinches of coarse salt and shake the paper to evently distribute the salt all over the almonds.

They’ll last a few days stored in an airtight, glass container – that’s if nobody gets their hands on them! Once you pop, you can’t stop! Everybody loves these salty snacks.

6 Modern Tapas Bars in Malaga https://foodexperiencemalaga.com/6-modern-tapas-bars-in-malaga/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=6-modern-tapas-bars-in-malaga Thu, 12 Sep 2019 16:13:00 +0000 https://foodexperiencemalaga.com/?p=452

TAPAS IN MALAGA IS A CULTURE THAT’S EVER-EVOLVING.

Malaga is famous for fabulous, traditional tapas bars, where you can truly find some of the best tapas in Malaga.

However, in addition to the traditional tapas bars, Malaga also has a fabulous selection of spots where chefs are elevating tapas to new levels.

This wave of modern, gourmet tapas bars is taking Malaga by storm and here at The Food Experience we simply love to try the creative, modern take on traditional tapas.

Here we share some of our favourite modern tapas bars in Malaga with you.

KGB Malaga

KGB Malaga is a multi-award winning modern, gourmet tapas bar in Malaga. KGB (Kuartel Gastronomic Bar) serves delicious, gourmet tapas from 5€. Their most famous (and unmissable) dish is their KGBull – an oxtail slider in brioche bun which has now been tasted by over 100,000 happy customers.

Taberna Uvedoble

Uvedoble is firmly on the map as one of Malaga’s most established creative kitchens. Their menu offers options for everyone in tapa size (individual portion), media racion (half portion) and racion (full portion), making it perfect for individuals and large groups alike. Because of its popularity reservations are highly recommended, any night of the week.

La Cosmopolita

La Cosmopolita is principally a restaurant but they offer a few tapas that can be enjoyed at the bar without a reservation. La Cosmopolita is on the map in Malaga as the place that the Chef’s eat, and if it’s good enough for the Chefs of Malaga, it’s good enough for us.

Kortxo Pintxos y Tapas

Kortxo has a fantastic range of tapas and pinchos (the typical tapa of the Basque country – served on a slice of bread). Their twist is the basque influence and it’s one of the few places in Malaga that you can enjoy pinchos and speciality basque wine Txakoli (not to be missed when you visit).

La Deriva

Another spot that is as much (if not more) restaurant than tapas bar, but which serves fantastic tapas as well as a huge variety of cheeses and charcuterie. Admire the fantastic ceiling as you wash down a speciality cheese with a glass of Sherry.

Blossom

At the time of writing, Blossom is the newest kid on the block. Open just a couple of months we have already eaten there three times! The place is small and intimate what makes Blossom unique is that you can watch the Chef plating up beautiful tapas in his tiny open kitchen. Unlike some of the others listed its size makes Blossom a less hectic, cosier option.

So there you have just a few of our top picks for modern, gourmet tapas bars in Malaga.

On our modern gourmet Malaga food tour we hit at least 4 spots on a progressive tasting menu around Malaga. We take all the hard work and planning out so you simply get to enjoy the experience of eating the top picks in each spot, perfectly paired with drinks as we go. Prices from just €160 per person for a progressive 6-stop ‘tasting menu’ food tour with wine pairing.
