The Semana Santa Experience
4th April 2023
Live the Semana Santa experience with us!
Join us for an exclusive, ‘money can’t buy’ event, where you get to truly see Semana Santa through the eyes of a local.
From a private balcony, in the heart of the action, you will view El Rocio – one of the most revered processions in the whole week.
Join us on Tuesday 4th April (Martes Santo) for a Semana Santa experience like no other. We have carefully selected 5 of our favourite tapas from some of our local bars around the city, which will be transported to our top secret, private venue and served on the beautiful balcony (paired with some fantastic local wines, of course!), followed by viewing the El Rocio procession from a unique and exclusive, private vantage point, away from the crowds. Finish with a sweet treat – typical in Malaga at easter time, to send you home with a spring in your step.
Of course, you’ll learn all about the traditions of Semana Santa (why do they wear those hats, what’s the incense all about?). And not from just anyone – from a man who has been part of the crew of 200(ish) men who carry El Rocio, over a dozen times!
La Virgen del Rocio (La Novia de Malaga) is one of the largest ‘tronos’ (thrones) in the procession, and draws crowds of thousands. But you can forget fighting the crowds for the perfect photo.

As Founder and Chief Experience Designer, British-born Hanni’s passion for Spain and its food came from a long line of foodie-travelers. “My grandmother was a baker who spent much of her life in Hong Kong and Malaysia. My mother was a chef and worked on tall ships all around the world until literally the day she passed away. Now I continue their legacy (as does my Son, who is also a chef, currently working in New Zealand!)”
Hanni loves nothing more than the joy of sharing her gorgeous home city and its wonderful people with visitors.
Born and bred in Malaga, Pedro lived and worked in the UK and Netherlands over several years.
In 2020 he returned to his beloved homeland where he met Hanni.
Pedro carried the ‘Rocio’ over a dozen times as a young(er) man and knows all there is to know not only about this procession, but Semana Santa in general (generations of his family have taken part in various processions).
He’s here to share his love, passion and excitement for Semana Santa with you.
